In the book Siddhartha there are a good amount of parts that I can relate to. Siddhartha gets into an arguement with his father about becoming a Samana. “I will stand and wait.”
“You will grow tired, Siddhartha.”
“I will grow tired.”
“You will fall asleep, Siddhartha.”
“I will not fall asleep.”
“You will die, Siddhartha.”
“I will die.”
I relate to this because I have have stood up to my parents before, it didn't go as smoothly as this, and it definately was not an easy thing to do. Siddhartha was way more successful in his dispute, but I know exactly how hard it would be to stand up to his father.
Siddhartha had to leave the Samanas even though he had learned so much from them. "Siddhartha learned a great deal from the Samanas; he learned many ways of losing the Self. He traveled along the path of self-denial through pain, through voluntary suffering and conquering of pain, through hunger, thirst and fatigue."
I can relate to this because i have had to stop playing in a hockey league with my friends that was just for fun that I still did learn a lot from into a more advanced league to better my skills. It was not exactly like his choice though, I didn't need to leave them behind. Istill stayed friends with all those guys when Siddhartha had to pretty much remove the Samanas from his life.
